What is a provider?

Providers are central to how GetReferd works. This article describes who they are and what function they provide in GetReferd.

A health professional, health practitioner or healthcare provider (sometimes simply “provider”) is an individual who provides preventive, curative, promotional or rehabilitative health care services in a systematic way to people, families or communities.

A health professional may operate within all branches of health care, including medicine, surgery, dentistry, midwifery, pharmacy, psychology, nursing or allied health professions.

The practice or surgery will be made up of two types of users in GetReferd.

When a provider is added to the practice or surgery, a verification email will be sent to the provided email address. The recipient can choose to activate their GetReferd account if they’d like to receive and schedule their referrals.

However, this is not necessarily mean the staff member (receptionist, office admin) won’t receive referrals themselves, as they are not a provider of health care services. These types of users will only be sending and receiving referrals.
